Carol Ashton

Carol M. Ashton is the John F., Jr. and Carolyn Bookout Professor of Surgical Quality and Outcomes Sciences and co-director of the Center for Outcomes Research at Houston Methodist Hospital. She holds an M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She completed an internal medicine residency at the Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals and is board-certified in internal medicine. She also holds an M.P.H. from the University of Texas School of Public Health.

Joel Braslow

Joel Braslow is a professor in the UCLA department of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences and department of history. Trained as a historian and psychiatrist, his work examines the social, cultural, historical, and scientific context of treatment practices for severe mental illness. His research has ranged from early twentieth-century American psychiatric practices (Mental Ills and Bodily Cures) to contemporary policy and care for severe mental illness. Dr.

John Brekke

John S. Brekke is the Frances Larson Professor of Social Work Research, and the Associate Dean of Research at the School of Social Work, University of Southern California. He co-directs the Hamovitch Center for Science in the Human Services. Prior to assuming an academic appointment, Dr. Brekke had clinical positions working with persons diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness in inpatient and outpatient settings. Thomas Croghan

Thomas W. Croghan, a nationally recognized expert in the fields of mental health and pharmaceutical policy research, is a senior fellow at Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. His research concentrates on studying access and quality, adequacy of coverage, and outcomes for different groups, in addition to analyzing the capabilities of the health system to provide care for vulnerable populations. Croghan received his M.D. from West Virginia University School of Medicine and comes to Mathematica from the RAND Corporation, where he was a senior natural scientist.

M. Robin DiMatteo

Robin DiMatteo is Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California at Riverside. She received her Ph.D. in 1976 from the psychology and social relations program at Harvard, and has spent her entire career at UC Riverside. She has served as chair of the psychology department, and is a recipient of UCR's Distinguished Teaching Award. Since she was a graduate student under the mentorship of social psychologist Robert Rosenthal, Dr. DiMatteo has studied the micro-social environment of health care delivery.

R. Adams Dudley

R. Adams Dudley is a professor of medicine and health policy at the University of California, San Francisco. He is the director of the UCSF Center for Healthcare Value and the associate director for research at UCSF's Institute for Health Policy Studies. His major research interests include developing measures of quality of care, assessing the impact of quality-based or value-based purchasing, and financial risk adjustment (adjusting premiums and capitation rates to reflect the severity of illness of enrollees).

Annetine Gelijns

Annetine C. Gelijns is the chair of the Department of Population Health Science and Policy at the Mount Sinai Medical Center. Previously, Dr. Gelijns was the Co-Director of the International Center for Health Outcomes and Innovation Research, and and professor of surgical sciences in the department of surgery, College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the School of Public Health, Columbia University in New York City. Lisa Iezzoni

Lisa I. Iezzoni, MD, MSc, has been named director of the MGH/Partners Mongan Institute for Health Policy (MIHP). Iezzoni has been associate director of the MIHP since 2006 and is a leading authority on risk adjustment for cost and quality measurement as well as health policy and access issues. She has made many contributions to academia, research, and health policy and delivery, including authoring three books and dozens of articles on topics related to assessing severity of illness, measuring complications of inpatient care, and health care disparities affecting persons with disabilities.

Shoou-Yih Daniel Lee

Shoou-Yih Daniel Lee is Chair, Department of Health Policy and Management. He is also a research professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Previously. Prior to his current position, he was an associate professor of health policy and management at the University of Michigan. Harold S. Luft, PhD, is the director of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Research Institute. Previously, he was the chair of the Health Policy Department, the Caldwell B. Esselstyn Professor of Health Policy and Health Economics and director of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. His research and teaching have covered a wide range of areas, including medical care utilization, health maintenance organizations, hospital market competition, quality and outcomes of hospital care, risk assessment and risk adjustment, and health care reform.
