Eugene R. Declercq is professor of maternal and child health and Assistant Dean for Doctoral Education at Boston University School of Public Health. He combines formal training in political science with his almost twenty years of experience as a certified childbirth educator to examine policy and practice around childbirth in the US and abroad. The most recent example is his current research examining cesarean section in the US as part of his work as an RWJF Investigator Award.

Barbara Katz Rothman

Barbara Katz Rothman is professor of sociology at the City University of New York and professor in the department of sociology at Baruch College. She is the author of In Labor (Norton, 1982 and 1991) updated and rewritten as Laboring On with co-author Wendy Simonds (Routledge, 2007) . Her second book, The Tentative Pregancy, originally published in 1986 (Viking, Norton edition 1993) the first book length study of women's experiences with prenatal testing, was published in Germany in 1991 where it was particularly well received.

Margaret Marsh

Margaret Marsh, Distinguished Professor of History and University Professor at Rutgers University, served for thirteen years, beginning in 1998, in senior leadership positions at Rutgers, including Dean and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Interim Chancellor, both on the Camden campus. She now divides her time between Arts and Sciences in Camden and the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research in New Brunswick.

Constance Nathanson

Constance Nathanson is a professor of clinical sociomedical sciences at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. She received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago. Dr. Nathanson has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She was cited for her prize-winning research on adolescent and adult women's reproductive health; gender, socioeconomic status, and health; and the politics of public health. Dr. Nathanson has written widely on reproductive and sexual health services in the U.S.

Celeste Watkins-Hayes

Celeste Watkins-Hayes is an associate professor of African American studies and sociology at Northwestern University and currently serves as chair of the Department of African American Studies. In addition to her faculty appointment, Watkins-Hayes is a faculty fellow at Northwestern's Institute for Policy Research and Cells to Society (C2S): The Center on Social Disparities and Health. From 2004-2009, she was a visiting summer fellow at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies at UC, San Francisco.

Carol Weisman is the associate dean of faculty affairs at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. She is also the director of the Central Pennsylvania Center of Excellence for Research on Pregnancy Outcomes.
